The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland Bay Trust awarded Best Poster to the Mattawoman Watershed Society at the 8th annual Chesapeake Watershed Forum held in September at Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The award represented the outcome of the evaluation of a panel of expert judges and was based on the quality of the message, design, and overall impact of the poster.
The poster was titled “A Tale of Two
Streams--A Tale of Two Futures” and contrasted the fates of two adjacent
streams, one in a developing area, and the other in less developed area with more forest. The poster illustrated the adverse effect of urbanization and the protective
nature of a forest. It cautioned that the Chesapeake Bay
watershed, which includes the Mattawoman, is losing 100 acres of forest per day and that urbanization is the only
pollution sector in the Bay that is still increasing.
